Tajweed Rule

Izhar

إِظْهَار · /ɪzˈhɑːr/

Izhar is a Tajweed rule where a noon sakinah or tanween is pronounced clearly, without merging or nasalizing into the next letter.

What does Izhar mean?

Applied when the noon is followed by one of six throat letters, izhar keeps the noon's sound fully distinct, the opposite approach to idgham, ikhfa, and iqlab, which all soften or change the sound.
